Yoshihito: The main features of new Saltiga are Mag Sealed ball bearing and ATD. The Mag Sealed ball bearing is increasing the water proofing performance. And ATD is bringing the drag performance to the next higher level.

Murakoshi: For angler, it is more important to know the benefit of new products, rather than the detailed internal mechanism upgrades. Anglers want to know the details only after they feel the benefit with using the products.

When I first used this new Saltiga, what made me surprised was light rotation. Though the reel was high gear model, I did feel no stress retrieving the jigs and poppers at very high speed. Once I had the opinion that high gear reel are hard to use because the rotation tends to be heavy. But, after I used this new Saltiga, I realized that the heavy feeling was from rubber seal used in the reel, and this heavy rotation was not because of high gear ratio. Now I am a big fan of high gear reels.

Yoshihito: The lightness of rotation was more than our expectation, to be honest. And I had heard that you tested new Saltiga in harshest condition, when you were testing in Korea.

Murakoshi: I was trying to simulate the situation which will be happen after several years of usage for normal anglers, during the trip in Korea. I put the reel in the bucket, full of saltwater during the transition on the boat. And once I arrived at the fishing spot, I put the reel several times into the saltwater.
But, at the end, nothing happened. I tried hard to find some faults on this new Saltiga, but unfortunately I could not find any faults. This experience made me feel that the new Saltiga may be the reel that keeps performance forever. Are you OK to produce such reels?

Yoshihito: How about the drag? You were intentionally hooking the sharks to test drag.

Murakoshi: On the Korean trip, the yellow tail average sizes were about 10kg, and they were not big enough to test the drag performances. And I let the sharks take the yellow tail to test the drag at the maximum condition. During the run of sharks, I changed the drag settings, weak to strong and strong to weak, for several times. It was really exhausting, to fight against sharks, to be honest.

Yoshihito: One of the ATD’s features is higher level of durability. Even after the long and strong load, the performance reduction was significantly lower, in our lab test.

Murakoshi: Yes. That was what I felt. Even after the long run of shark, the drag power did not weaken, and it did make me physically tired. I was so tired and let other engineer to hold the rod, with only telling him that I wanted to see the rod action.
The braided line is improving also. And it makes it possible for us to catch bigger fish more and more. At the same time, even higher performance is required for the reel. With this new Saltiga, you are ready to fish the biggest fish!
